I became interested in healthcare and health communications at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, I was finishing up my MA in Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse at DePaul University, and I was fascinated by the ways important health information was being circulated and interpreted.
From humble signs on the fronts of businesses to national health advisories, it seemed like our whole lives became about how we shared content related to our health and well-being. For many, this was the first time health became a daily concern — an unexamined privilege.
For myself, it sparked an interest in medical rhetorics in my studies, later mirrored in my own teaching. Prior to CareContent, I taught freshman English and public speaking at Johnson and Wales University. There, audience and access became the foundation for my teaching pedagogy and curriculum.
In joining the team at CareContent, I have been able to merge many of my passions: writing, editing, research, design, and the pursuit of new knowledge.
