My first real look at the inner workings of healthcare began in high school. I spent a lot of time in the nurse’s office—not because I needed to, but because I wanted to. At first I just liked the quiet refuge the space provided, but then I became a student assistant and started to get a closer look at what goes on behind the scenes: from managing childhood diabetes to recovering from sports injuries.
First and foremost, I am a writer with a passion for education (and a not-so-tiny obsession with Justin Timberlake). I spend a lot of time thinking about health literacy and what healthcare experts—the CareContent team included—can do to improve everyone’s access to and understanding of complex health issues.
I received my BA in Creative Writing with a minor in Spanish from Butler University before moving to Chicago for graduate school. While working towards my MA in Interdisciplinary Studies (with a focus in nonfiction writing) at DePaul University, I started as an intern at CareContent when it was just getting off the ground—a position that morphed into a “real job” by the time I graduated.
In my spare time, I like to read and work on my blogs (yes, plural)—because clearly I don’t spend enough time writing.
